This is the picture of the mark that she has. She wasn’t born with it. It keeps on growing and I am very concerned. Her doctor told me that it will go away eventually but I am worried it won’t. Did any of you or your children have it? How long did it take for it to go away and did it go away eventually?

My doctors told my parents the same thing. It kept growing. When I was married with kids, I had it taken off, but because I waited so long, I still have to deal with it coming back. One of my kids had one at birth. We had it taken off at two months and haven't seen anything since.

If you're in the NY area, I can give you my doctor. If not (or if so), go to the website dor the vascular birthmark foundation and look one up.

My daughter had it on her stomach. It showed up like a tiny pimple around 4 weeks old and grew to the size of a dime. By 9 months it began shrinking and getting lighter. She’s 18 months and there is no sign of it besides a slightly raised skin in that area but the same color as her natural skin.
Some people do laser or give blood pressure medication (I think that’s the type of meds) if it’s very big and on the face.

Thank you for responding. Did you have the same one that my daughter has or was it different?

Can’t c ur pic but my brother had a really large hemangioma on his head that went away. My niece had one on her eye lid that faded to almost nothing.

Dd had one on his arm (I can’t see your pic clearly so can’t tell you if it’s he same or not). It looked like a red bump made out of a mass of red blood vessels, slightly raised over the skin. As a newborn my dr said to just let it go away by itself. And he measured the diameter and documented the redness each bust. At 6 months he sent me to a specialized skin dr. Just in case. Choices for treatment. 1. Laser but leaves a scar 2. Apply special ointment daily and otherwise leave alone, it will shrink and fade slowly over time. 3. Cardiac medication, where you stay in the hospital for a few days so they can monitor how the meds affect the heart. If all ok you can go home and continue meds till strawberry mark is gone.
Based on size and location of the red mark, dr recommended choice 2, which I did. He’s almost 6 years old and it’s 80% gone, fades with time and bump gets flatter
My neighbor’s daughter had above her lip she opted for laser, went back 2-3 times, worked bh and no scar (we used the same dr).
My other neighbors had a big one on the face, she did the cardiac medication and it went away after a few months.
If my kid had on the Face I would do the cardiac treatment, takes time but no scar and no pain

Hard to see your picture. Is it growing in height (puffiness) as well as the amount of skin it covers

Regardless, I wouldn't tell you to take it off or not to. I am recommending going to see a doctor who specializes in these. They will have a better knowledge base for what to do and when. For example, my dc had a completely different mark than mine. My doctor said he would leave it a bit to see if it showed signs of resolving (they take measurements and pictures each visit), but it was located on the surface of his knee so he would be likely to irritate it when he crawled. So the doctor recommended removal because it could be dangerous if it just ruptured.

My daughter has/had 3. It only started showing up at a few weeks old. One tiny one was completely gone by 18 months. She’s 2 now the second one shrank to a light red mark. It keeps on getting smaller. The third one on her back is raised and bigger. It definitely got smaller but still is raised.

There’s a vascular birthmark institute in Manhattan I was recommended to. I didn’t go since her big one is not on an obvious spot.

My son had one on his arm. Doc wasn't very concerned but sent us to a vascular specialist to make sure. That doc said it should be gone by 18 months. She gave something to massage onto it so it doesn't grow much bigger. (It was actually eye drops that was supposedly proven to help). Someone else told me that massaging alone also helps. Maybe it helps with blood circulation. Ok

If I'd be you, I'd go to a vascular specialist. I went to a very nice lady in NYC. When your kid grows older and it bothers him, you have to be able to say that you did all you could.

My daughter had a hemangioma on her face but we treated it with both oral and topical medication and now it’s completely flattened and the color has mostly faded. I would recommend you see a specialist, especially given the location- it looks like if it gets a little bigger it might obstruct her breathing. If you’re in the NY area I have a wonderful doctor to recommend.

Both my daughters had them. One was born with it, one wasn’t. They are both gone now. One is completely gone and the other has a slightly raised skin color mark.

These are my people. I used Dr. Milton Waner. He knows a lot, and also knows when to send you to someone else who may know more about your specific needs.

My daughter had one on her face. I was referred to a pediatric dermatologist who recommended laser. I held off because it was pretty small. Ultimately, it went away completely.

I did know someone else who had a very large one that required surgery and laser. But now she looks great, just a small scar.

My niece had one. Sil was told to wait it might go away but when she was almost going to school (at 3 years) they had it removed since it was still big and in the same spot as your daughters and she didn’t want her to ever be bullied because of it. She didn’t want anyone from school to have pictures with it so that school friends never remember her having it.

Hi, please see a vascular birthmark specialist. These marks can be treated with propranolol, and it no longer requires any hospitalization.

We went to a pediatric dermatologist for it and just did a topical treatment and it worked wonders. It all depends on the details of size and growth etc, so see a specialist

Dr Milton Waner removed one for my son on top of his head. I highly recommend him. My son wasn’t born with it, it started when he was 7 weeks and just kept on growing. By 3 decided to have it removed. Was afraid the kids in school will tease him about it.
