It depends on your taste and how the room looks.
Round is always in while square can be dated.

Square has to be put in very perfectly or else you can see when it’s not 100% perfectly aligned.

Round is coming back but it's a very flat look. Not the ones we're used to seeing in round

Really? When is it dated from? All things blue thinks it's trendy and modern.

Round is so last century to my eye.

It's trendy and modern now which means that it'll be dated in afew years. Round is always in. There are many types and sizes of round spot lights.

Ok, but you said square is dated. Now you say it's trendy and modern. Which one?

How do you know round will always be in? I don't think it's so in now. It's probably cheaper if I had to guess.

It depends on the rest of OP's choices.

She means to say because square is trendy it's not a classic but is in only when it is in style

I meant to say that square is not something that's a classic and always in.

If your home has very clean square lines, go with square. Otherwise, round is always a safe bet. Square can look off if not exactly aligned in spacing around the room.

Are you renovating or building a home? What type of home? Do you like updated? Or do you like what your mom's generation had?

The square lights do have to be installed straight, but they can be turned to straighten them out. My eye gets bothered if things are crooked.

And round looks cheap and dated to me. It's a matter of opinion. Also "very high end" is subjective.
