My son is 15.5
He is in 10th grade.
He is bright and intuitive.

He is not ADHD. He is able to concentrate and focus.
He is emotionally healthy Baruch Hashem
He is not into drugs, alcohol, girls or much social media.
His language is clean.

He cannot "do" a 3 seder yeshiva.

He wants to work also or do other things.
He does need to work on Gemara skills

Does something like this exist in NY, NJ or Baltimore?
Somewhere else?
Israel?
A dorm is fine.

I need help. Please advise.

What general haskkafa do you need? Where are you located?

Many less yeshivish schools but still very frum schools might meet his needs, including MTA and JEC. MTA has a dorm. These schools have good Judaic and secular academics with a lot of extra curriculars. The assumption is that the boys are college/career bound. At JEC the seniors get jobs/internships for the last part of the year.

Thanks for your responses.

If I had to classify my son, he is yeshivish lite.
He wears a hat and jacket but he watches movies
and does not feel comfortable in an overly
yeshivish or MO environment.
I suppose he is evolving, finding himself,
but JEC would be too MO for him.
can you please provide more info regarding the 1/2 day yeshiva option in NY?

I don't know about a half day option--I just know that at JEC, they've fulfilled a lot of their state requirements by the middle of senior year so they explore different career options as part of their afternoon schedule.

If JEC is too MO, than maybe Heichal HaTorah is a good option, but I don't know what their schedule is like or how many seder a day.

I recommend you call Rabbi Binyomin Strauss in Lakewood. He knows all the mesivtas and will tell you exactly which ones you should look into for your son. Hatzlacha.

Not my world, but, IMNSHO,

(1) Sounds pretty normal to me.

(2) Is there a rebbe or administrator whom your son likes and trusts? Could you brainstorm with that person, including your son in the discussion, about how you might be able to make the current situation work for him? I understand that you might be afraid of losing his place without anywhere else to go, so that might not work. And maybe they will say their way or the highway. But maybe there is something that they can do to help. Including letting him do an independent research project in lieu of one shiur.

Either way, your kid sounds amazing Good luck.

Rabbi Goldblatt's yeshiva in Lakewood sounds like what you might be looking for. But they don't have a dorm. Not sure what work a 10th grader could be doing, but its a place that is a little more easygoing in general about the yeshivish rules. Ask if maybe you can have him skip night seder.

Toras Chaim in Baltimore. Day ends at 5:30, night seder is 8:30 to 9:30, I think. In general they are much more preoccupied with not over burdening the boys.

There are yeshivas in the five towns that fit your bill. Mesivta ateres yaakov is one. Good boys. They generally go to israel for a year after 12th grade and then college. Good kodesh, chol, and extracurricular sports programs. Boys do not need to wear white shirts to school but must wear hat and jacket to davening. There is also nishmas hatorah and netzach which are schools of similiar hashtags. Boys come from five towns queens and brooklyn. No dorm.

thank you for all your suggestions!
I will look into these ideas.
Staying in the yeshiva is not something he's interested in any more.

He was hospitalized for 2 weeks recently and got not even one phone call from his rebbi or rosh y.
He was found with a phone and it was confiscated and smashed with a hammer and he lost all his pictures.
not a warm and loving place... Sad
He should not have brought the phone, but the hammer did not engender a love for his current yeshiva.
He told me "they don't really care about me or anyone else..." I couldn't disagree with him.

I was also going to suggest Toras Chaim in Baltimore.. From what I told, it's a really warm yeshiva that really works with the boys on all levels. They also have extra curricular that is not academic like archery. The boys are from solid frum homes and solid kids themselves.
It's a small school, but my understanding it's not terribly hard to get in.

No suggestions re yeshivas but just wanted to say this is horrible! Smash it with a hammer? There are many other ways to do it. This isn't chinuch. This is an angry outburst.
And 2 weeks with not a single phone call? I wouldn't want to go to that yeshivah either!

Re pictures, take the smashed phone to a specialist, they might be able to exctract the photos.
Loads of luck and rs.
