I wish I was kidding. I just dont know how to stay organized.
I'm also trying to get the house into shape.
Any practical tips for the extremely not neat person? (Except for throwing things out, which I am currently doing)
Thank you

I organize one room at a time. Whatever doesn't belong in that room/doesn't have a place I throw into the hallway. I leave the job of sorting through all those things last. My husband laughs at my method but otherwise, I find I'm just shuffling things around and not getting anywhere. My mother's method is big black garbage bags. She loves throwing things out. It used to drive me nuts as a kid but now, I must admit, there's nothing like getting rid of all the extra stuff. And the feeling of I can breathe! that comes afterward. Nothing like it. I also invested in an assortment of containers and baskets for different things around the house. It really helps keep the closets looking neat.

Buy nice storage containers and label them. Maybe color coded for each member of the family. Have a place for everything and put it away where it belongs after using it. Don't overbuy. Have your family's coopration in discarding of unwanted items and organizing what you keep. Store away some toys and rotate them at times.

What does this mean to rotate toys? The good (aka smart) ones too or just the stupid toys which I'd love to get rid of my kids would cry?
