Agree with Denim especially that blue and black now are considered (unless things have changed recently) coordinating.

Colorful tights are in. Blue is fine. Gray is fine. Mustard is fine.

I don't like black tights with blue skirts. I'd wear gray or mustard or another color to match the top.

Obviously you’ll get a million answers when you ask such a varied group.
But I live in Lakewood, have a fashion based business, and am the kind of person who watches runway shows and will spend $1000+ on my outfits.. and I absolutely do wear navy tights if I’m wearing an navy outfit that doesn’t have any black in it.

I’d say I know fashion and navy tights are fine. I’ll wear navy tights to match a navy skirt and contrasting shoes, depending on the color top. Grey looks pretty with navy as well, depending on the style.

But- if you are nervous about being different or don’t want to buy another pair of tights, black tights and shoes is fine.

Brown boots or grey boots. I'd wear Navy tights. But I'd also wear brown tights.

If you are very fashionable and can pull off the look, blue tights with brown shoes is awesome.
if the rest of your outfit isn't too stylish, it might not come out looking right, so just stick with black.

You're getting some interesting suggestions here. I love navy! So much more flattering than black for pale-skinned ladies. I wear skirts with navy tights and navy shoes with a teal top, lavender top, blue top, green top...and it looks nice and gets compliments.

I think those days with rules of one way or the other are gone...
Anything goes today...If you're trying to be more striking, rather wear contrasting colors - than navy and grey. I happen to like contrast, but on myself I'm more conservative.
The main thing if it suits you.
Sometimes people copy their friends just for style, not realizing it looks a bit hideous on them.

I think colors of tights goes by area. I remember years ago working with a woman who was originally from Canada & she wore navy tights to navy skirt, when literally nobody here was doing navy tights, only black.

Hi everyone, thanks so much for all the input! I was so embarrassed to post in the first place, because I sound so clueless and thought the only response I would get would be "wear what you think looks good", so I really appreciate all the replies. It sounds like if you are more conservative-Yeshivish, black tights and shoes are just worn with everything right now, and if you are more intuitively fashionable and creative, you can pull off navy and grey,etc tights with the right contrasting shoe. I really like having these subtle "rules" spelled out for me, so thank you again!!
