We are looking for something not super common (so Shmuel and Yehuda, which are my top two choices, are out unless I can convince DH). I'd prefer not Chananya/Chananel as there's already a Chana in the family and I think that's too close. I'd also prefer not Nesanel/Yonasan because we're in EY and these names would be pronounced with a tav. Prefer not Simcha for personal reasons. DH doesn't like Yehoshua.
Maybe Yochanan? Eliezer, or is that super common? Nissim, I guess is uncommon but maybe it's more Sefardi?

Ezriel! We gave that too and get complimented all the time, everyone we meet loves it and even the non Jewish people connect with it, they seem to think its Israel
You can do Ezzi, Ezri as a nickname.
