First of all, he said all playgroups. Secondly, daycare closures will come from the state and/or DOH. They license them, they shut them down. Schools were closed by an executive order. Why would one pediatrician, even a very experienced one, be the one to close down licensed facilities?

Well, most of the home-based playgroups/babysitters are not legal so they state does not know about them. Those babysitters are going to listen to him.
Secondly, the daycares should and must be closed! I can't understand what the state and DOH are waiting for! Why would they close schools but not daycares??!

Because school aged children are fine on their own. Younger children need to be cared for during the day.

I'm a long time patients of dr shanik's practice and I respect very much.
I'm shocked that he waited until this morning to give recommendations for playgroup to close.
Unfortunately he was counting on ppl's smart judgment and a lot of ppl seems to be missing their seichel these days! 
(I'm basing this on reading the comments posted on news site like tls, ywn and others!)

Kindergarten is not school age, it's preschool.

Preschools are closed, honey. Kindergarten-12th grade and universities are closed.
Daycares=open.
Whhy???

Yes, but preschools are part of the education system, babycakes, so they are different from independent daycares.

The reason daycares aren't in step with preschools is simply because they are different entities, sugar pumpkin.
