I heard that there's also an app that you use to set one up in your own home. Anyone know what I'm talking about? |
I'd love to hear more about this, if anyone knows!

So before you load up your cart, ask! |
Why is painting a sheila?

You can’t paint a room. Or professional paint. Or write.
Depends what you consider painting.

Painting a picture or pottery is not painting a room.

You are supposed to minimize melacha. So no writing, but a doctor can write a prescription, etc.

I would imagine that rabbonim will look for heterim this year. A child's craft project may be in a different category, especially when the child may be terribly disappointed that the longed for excursions won't materialize. It may be halachically preferable over children being endlessly entertained by the internet. It is something that rabbonim need to address. People should really bring this to the attention of their Rav who himself may be making these decisions.
People who have lawns can play kickball but apartment dwellers face real issues and it may call for relaxing some of the chol hamoed chumrahs (could be that these are halacha).

When I asked him a years ago, my Rav explaimed that the issur is really about making something that is considered a skill. Like something a person skilled at a trade would make. There are some Rabannim who hold that if youre not a professional artist, then these kinds of crafts are ok becase you're not skilled at that trade. Others, like my Rav, hold that its still not permissable even if we are not professionals of that trade. At the time I was asking of I could paint pottery at color me mine, and he said the only heter he could give was if we would paint the item, and not keep it. Just leave it there forever. Which of course we didnt bother with.

Pack a Pesach lunch, put on your chol hamoed outfits, go to the front or back porch or backyard, bring balls, frisbees, drones, etc., and have a real picnic. If you use the internet, see if you can take a “tour” of a museum, zoo, etc. when you “come home” from your trip, unpack, put things away, have a “fun supper” such as hotdogs and French fries with coleslaw and pickles. Everyone will be tired, so a quiet movie with some Pesach snacks can end the day. Have fun!

Most are closed, as of last time I drove (to bring DS home from yeshiva, over a week ago).

They are! My kids won't be having their school teleconference lessons, less of a schedule. Not busy for pesach bc it is pesach. More time for family fun! I'm also looking for ideas. I bought a jigsaw puzzle and jigsaw glue so far. Looking for more ideas. I thought of a Jewish music dance mat but my local toy shop don't have it in stock. Following thread....
