My nephew's bar mitzvah was supposed to be next Shabbos. I am crying just thinking of what he's going through. Aside for the celebration, My DS started learning his leining a few months ago so I know what it's like- I can't imagine what a boy must be going through having spent so many hours upon hours preparing and then nothing. My heart goes out to him.
I want to do/send him something but I'm at a loss. I think I'll send him a book and game for yom tov, but that's still not "bar mitzvaish", I really want to do some thing else

Any ideas?

First of all, when this all eventually blows over, he will have still learned how to lein, which is a valuable skill.

Perhaps his family can arrange a minyan-only reading with exactly 10 men spaced VERY far apart (in shul or in some courtyard). People have been doing this for bar-mitzvahs, weddings, etc these days.

As for what you can do: Maybe you could arrange a video conference call with him and a bunch of relatives from your side of the family who cannot be there.

We did a Zoom bar mitzvah and the friends made a video for him but a minyon was not allowed.

Can you elaborate? My son is being bar mitzvah soon. How did the friends make a video and what was the video about? How did you do the bar mitzvah on zoom?

Did you do special decor and a fancy meal for his parents and siblings?

It would be very helpful hear more.

They don't have internet, so the Zoom idea won't work Sad
I like the becher, that is something he'll remember for years and years.
Keep the ideas coming please

We did zoom kumzitz with one bar mitzvah boy

Another one we bought the family breakfast day he put on teffilin and day of bar mitzvah.

I heard one family did a drive by where friends and family drive by in own cars holding up signs and singing and waving while bar mitzvah boy stood outside in hat.

I’m finding many bar mitzvah boys are handling it very maturly .

I prefer to remain anonymous.

Any way you can share a bit more here? It might help others too that face this problem in the next few months.
