Why would you cancel your ob appointment? Most drs offices now have very strict rules . Like only one person at a time in the waiting room etc.. everyone wears a mask and gloves ...

Of course I do. Dont you?

You disinfect EVERY container of food that enters your home? You wash every can of tuna, every container of yogurt, and every package of chips before putting them away? Wow.

Why would I risk it

Would you feel comfortable cancelling EVERY appointment, if this lasts for months?

Most of us would accept some level of risk to make sure everything was okay. I'm trying to point out that mikvah should be no different.

Yes!! Ive been doing this since purim...im sure im not the only one! The virus can live for 24 hrs to days, depending on the material its on. Youre literally inviting it into your home with every batch of groceries if you dont do this ...

(And for the record-im not at all a germ freak under normal circumstances. I hardly wash my fruits and veggies, eat off the floor, share food and drinks with people etc)

Although it technically CAN live on surfaces, the CDC does not consider this the main route of transmission.

The cdc can go jump in a lake. They have changed their wording more than once, changed their recomendations about what kind of masks healthcare workers should wear, etc etc. A lot of their written print is questioned by other authorities. Take a look around you. Look how quickly this is spreading and use common sense.

It's cute that now the CDC, the ones everyone always treats as above criticism, have become so debased.

Don't worry, the ones making the mikvah protocols agree with you. That's why they insist that all surfaces that are touched must be sanitized after each user.

Yes. I work in healthcare. I get frequent updates from the NY dept of health, as well as the CDC. They do not always sing the exact same tune-which teaches you to research and use critical thinking. The NIH also has its own recommendations as well as the WHO-and thats not to mention the countless infectious disease specialists who are begging people to listen to their recommendations...
so the CDC may not think its the most common mode of transmission, but there are numerous other authorities begging people to be careful of touching any surfaces, even outdoor ones such as public playground equipment...the whole "dont touch your face" thing is specifically because your hands have likely picked up the virus after touching an object contaminated with it. And with the rate of this disease transmission youve got to be a fool to relax because the cdc doesnt seem to think its the most common route....
Everybody, please. Keep your house as shut off as possible, and disinfect any object that comes into it.

I do, too. It may not be an official requirement, but I think it's plain common sense.

And OP, no, you are not the only one. Although I am not 100% sure as things are changing daily, both my DH and I feel that this is probably the responsible thing to do.
I think that no one, NO ONE, can tell a woman that she has to go these days. It's a potential risk, and more is unknown than known at this time. The CDC and WHO say as much as to the many yet unknowns in this scenario.
Although I understand those who decide to go despite the risk, just as I understand that not everyone disinfects every item they bring home from the store, I am shocked at some the responses to OPs decision.

How about those who are afraid of the mikvah try that instead?

Sorry, just couldn't help getting a chuckle out of that expression in this context.

Back to the regular programming.

I am pushing it off at this time.
1. I have heard through the grapevine those in charge of the mikvah where I live are not taking all the
precautions they should.
2. I believe there will be people in the community who will go even if they aren't feeling well.
3. The mikvah is generally a little grungy, not well maintained.
4. The men's mikvah is closed. It is right in the next room to the women's. I'm sure someone male has gotten access to the women's mikvah. When the men's mikvah is under repair, they use the women's during the day. Some men will completely disregard all elements of taking precautions to get their daily dunk in.
5. There are men who already disregard the the rules and use the men's mikvah at night. I was once there when this happened. Terrifying.

My husband is fine with my decision. This is a time of a lot of worry and stress, and taking a worrisome mikvah experience during this time off my plate is a huge help. We have been married 23 years. We will be Ok!

I do believe couples should decide for themselves as long as mikvahs remain open.

I do have to say I am surprised, especially after the comments made to an amother on another thread (a while back) who said she doesn't do prenatal care or ultrasounds.

I agree that if the mikvah is as you describe, it is likely a sakana.

Can you not travel to a mikvah that IS following protocol?

OP I just went on a pill to push off my period indefinitely for just this reason. I did go to mikvah about a week ago and I don't want to go again for a few months at least! I hope the pill works and I don't get breakthrough bleeding...

I went to a mikva in Boro Park this week. They did their best to follow protocol. I was impressed.

I personally think we women would always be sick and contact diseases if Mikva would spread
bacteria and virus and fungus.

I am not a scientist nor engineer but somehow the halachic requirements of Mikva building inhibits breeding of virus/bacteria/fungus.

The health ministry in the early days of the founding of the State of Israel did scientific extensive testing (on women's mikvas) (in those primitive Israeli times) and were shocked at their findings. I wish I could find the article.

Hatzlocha and dont let posters' rudeness get to you. You need support/chizuk no matter what you decide.

Yes I am.
Work in healthcare and people are not quarantine/social isolating themselves properly and they LIE about potentially exposure.
What I am potentially exposed to on a daily basis, niddah or not, I am not willing to share that with DH, so I am indefinitely sleeping in the guest room.

I didn't go this month because I was nervous. There are too many unknowns at this point. Why risk it?

Taking a pill to push off since I am sick. My local mikva is very quiet, only a few women a month use it, so not too worried about using it.
