dd isnt always keeping a straight back, in fact she sometimes looks hunched and am getting nervous. She is young and I want her to have a good posture...
Any advice? Do I take her to a doc? What kind of doc? Any exercises/sports recommended, such a s gymnastics ir swimming?

Stretching combined with core strength will straighten her spine, assuming she has no underlying conditions. I'm guessing she spends a lot of time sitting at a desk or reading, and not a lot of time on the playground. An easy remedy is to add an hour of any sport she loves - rollerblading, biking, dance - to every single day. Give her a "warm up/cool down" routine which stretches her back and rolls her shoulders (mommy3b2c, what would you suggest for a 10 year old?) And you should see very rapid improvement.

What does your pediatrician say?
Yes definitely take her to a chiropractor
They may recommend a brace or p/therapy or give her exercises to see if it gets better on its own
This is a very crucial time as she is doing a lot of growing now
It also can sometimes come from being self conscious with her developing body and low self esteem

Your pediatrician should be checking for scoliosis, but if you still want to take your child to a specialist, please do not take her to a chiropractor! You want a pediatric orthopedist. An MD.

After consulting with my pediatrician, I took DD to a physical therapist for posture concerns. She taught her a number of exercises to do at home and follows up to monitor. Of course the follow up monitoring is very much on hold now but she did do a zoom meeting to check in and encourage DD to keep doing the exercises... This is a kid who loves swimming and doing monkey bars, which you'd think would help/prevent. I'm not seeing a general improvement yet but I'm hopeful. I do see that she has more awareness, before PT if I tried pointing out to her that she was slumping and told her to straighten up, it was like she didn't even know how to do that, she would overcorrect in some weird unnatural way. Now she knows what straightening up should look like.

They say ballet is good for posture.

In other news, I opened this thread expecting to find a juicy story about a young female Sherlock. Go figure.
