I'm not going on vacation anywhere now, but I was looking where to post this question I've been having for a long time.

I travel to EY regularly and am always confused by police uniforms. Some wear all olive, some lt blue shirts and dark pants, others all dark.

What's the difference?

So if I'm standing next to all 3, happens in Meron lag baomer, who is the highest ranking officer?

I think it's just that they have different jurisdiction and authority for different things

I'm not asking about THIS year, it's a general question.

Ranks are indicated by the insignia on their uniforms.

I understand insignia. I was asking about colors. Many times I have a request or inquiry and don't know whom to approach. The uniforms are so confusing. I though the Israelis would know.

My post was in answer to your question, "who is the highest ranking officer?".

If you need police help, look for an insignia on their cap or sleeve that says משטרה, משטרת ישראל, or a star with a מ inside it. Rank doesn't matter, if you need help you want the closest police officer, not the highest ranking one.

I'll present a situation. Let's say there's a huge crowd and pushing and shoving and mishtara locks the barricades. Now everyone is stuck until mishtara gets a grip on the masses. I'm pregnant and hyperventilating and want to get out. There are 4 officers standing guard, a greyish one, olive one, dk blue one and one in lt blue shirt. Whom do I address without offending the one in charge? Who is in charge? How do I know who has the most authority of the 4?

That’s quite a situation:) I’m sure they’d all help you. But I would probably ask the mishrara if they were the ones who had the grip

In an emergency like that, the one who is most able to help will step in, no matter who you addressed first. Nobody is going to be offended. They are professionals, and are trained not to take things personally. You are not expected to know every single branch and rank of every single law enforcer. They just want to get you to safety, that's all.

Even in a general, calm situation, authorities are happy to point you to the person who can be of the most help. Generally, the Army is just there to keep the peace. If an important decision needs to be made, you will be directed to the police. If you just want to know how to get to King George street, anyone will point you in the right direction. We're pretty friendly like that.

I did not get an explanation of the different uniforms though.

Do the Israelis know the difference?

Olive green is a regular soldier.
Grayish green is border police.
Blue is regular police.
Blue without an insignia is a security guard.
Black is riot police.
Higher ranking army personnel will have a braid ir pin(s) on their shirt.

They won’t be insulted since you’re obviously a foreigner.
