People that work in hospitals in hard hit areas, are you all facing staffing cuts/pay cuts? We had hours cut for many staffers in NYC hospital.

Because they are losing huge amounts of money.

Hospitals make money on elective surgeries and other procedures and all elective procedures are on-hold and have been for many weeks.

Medical practices are also losing lots of money and many are in financial difficulties. People are not seeing doctors for routine procedures or really for anything that isn't an absolute emergency. Similarly dental practices are generally closed and therefore are in danger of going under.

My friend in outpatient PT has been furloughed e/o week. In between weeks they are having her come in and turn the COVID patients.

So here she is working 1/2 time and exposed/working with COVID patients.

That depends on a specific hospital and not all staff is assigned to ICU floors treating Corona.

I am not commenting on how your friend is being treated but surely you see that the need for P/T is way down - either in patient or outpatient.

There are no knee or hip replacements being performed for the past month or more. This is typically when P/T are used for home visits. Also many people who might otherwise P/T home services wouldn't use them. My grandthather had P/T out patient after being sent home for a cardiac incident to improve overall strength and balance. He would NEVER have someone coming in to see him during the pandemic because the benefit of the P/T is far less than the risk of the P/T provider infecting him.

I don’t know if some of our employees were furloughed. I know that many got re-assigned to other units. I’ve seen few people from breast imaging, cardiographics lab moved to step down ICU. PTs are working with corona patients on their way to recovery, helping them to regain their strength.
Our hospital also announced that we are hiring nurses.
