Here ye here ye
I found one pair

Two socks missing their pair
Here ye here ye
I found its pair

One sock missing the pair
No fear
My dear
You'll have to search far and near

The missing sock will only be found
Once you lost the other by the time you turn around

😊 Surprised

And normally, when your kids do leave the house, you do know where it goes? Do your kids come home with only one sock on? I didn't think so.

The solution, I think, is simple.

Some people think the washing machine eats socks. Others believe it's the dryer. But, if you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.

Since washing machines and dryers don't have teeth, that solution is impossible.
The truth is that these socks never make it into the washer in the first place. Dirty socks, having glimpsed small parts of the world during the day, acquire wanderlust and sprout wings. Then they sneak out the window and soar off towards the horizon.

If you don't believe me, let me ask you this: do you ever count the dirty socks you put in the washer and compare it to the number of clean ones you take out? Of course you don't.

Case closed.

My kids keep asking where their socks are. Little do they know I have a stash of them in my draw Rolling Eyes . I would say it’s obviously the dryer monster, but I’ve been hanging up their laundry. Maybe it’s flying off the line or the washing machine is taking over for the dryer.

I think one kid is taking the other kids socks. Same size

Last year before pesach I had a huge stash of single men’s socks from my husband and sons from over the year. I was telling my son that I think it’s time to just throw it out. He said ‘ no ma I’ll take it to yeshiva! Every morning boys rush and put on any 2 socks they find in their drawer or on the floor! We can use them!!!

The washing machine really does eat them.

Sock clips.
And frivolous though this is, doing just sock loads, sometimes for each room. Or putting the socks in a lingerie bag.
Oh boy, I remember those days. Whole bins of socks needing shidduchim, doing them with the kids, and knowing that, in a spooky precursor to NASI, some would go through their lives unpaired. (Yet living purposefully, as puppets or doll clothes when there was an urge to expand wardrobes.)

The other day I moved my baby's crib to sweep under there and I found about 8 or 10 pairs of socks. Half a mystery solved. He pulls them off at nap time and I am ever too busy to notice.
