We’ve been pretty careful with SD. I’m wondering if it’s ok to let my ten year old go biking with her friend if they keep a distance between them. She hasn’t seen her friends (other than virtually) in two months.
For those who are following SD rules, what are your thoughts?

has your child been out bike riding?
do you live somewhere s/he can do this with plenty of distance between other riders (and cars) as well?
if yes then id say ok with masks and a parent or two (if doable and fun) in the back to ensure SD -- it is very easy for kids bike riding to get too close inadvertently
if no, then another more stationary activity SD enabled so they could get together would be best

You think a mask is needed?

I would provide her with one. There are kids in the NY area who got really sick from COVID and 3 of them died. Why take chances?

Well she refuses to wear one, so if I tell her she has to, she’ll choose not to go.

I don’t see a problem with it.
It’s impossible to be too close while actually riding a bike. And if there aren’t tons of people around (which you can’t bike through anyway) then there’s no real need for a mask.
Unless you’re in NY and it’s required.

In New York they are stopping kids as well if no masks, but now they are handing them out instead of summons.

A mask is important. Some kids are sick and symptoms coming out late.

I would allow it with a mask for sure.

Yes. She can go biking with a mask.

I allowed my 11 yr old to do this last week, despite how nervous I am due to underlying conditions in the house. He has demonstrated responsibility in the past and agreed to wear mask and gloves throughout, and not get too close to his friend.
It made a huge difference. His mood improved and he feels less isolated now.
