True to size. If she's closer to an 8, get a medium. If she's closer to a 10, get a large.

I only have experience with t-shirts from Gap. I find they run a little large but not terribly. In toddler sizes they ran very big, and now that they're bigger kid sizes it's only a little big. My 9 year old is wearing size 10 in most other brands but gap size medium is still big. My 7 year old is wearing size 8 in most other brands and size small gap fits perfectly. My kids are average on their medical charts.
