Do you think the virus is seriously over just because it’s hot outside?
Why?

I think the Brooklyn communities (crown heights, williamsburg, boro park at least) achieved herd immunity at a very, very high price but either way the measures were too little, much too late. Ch had corona circulating before purim and was the first community hit after new Rochelle.

So for those places, staying closed makes no sense. It never made sense. The time to have been closed was literally weeks before it was mandated. The community schools shut down even before de blasio said to.

Hard to say if it's over or not. Maybe in some areas it's fully over. In some not yet. It's deffinitely getting better. The world is slowly reopening. Less hospitalizations etc. Lets hope for it to come to a complete end soon. Or at least there should be new meds and vaccines and methods etc to fight it without so many at risk of dying.

Its doesn't matter how many more tests they are doing. If they are coming back positive - the virus is still around.

I have immunocompromised family members. As per my conversation with their drs this week, the coronavirus is still around and vulnerable people still need precautions. I'm in Brooklyn

Of course it’s still around.
I don’t get why and how people think it suddenly disappeared into thin air.
We have to be mindful and less cynical and that’s the truth Ruth

The reason why “people” (ie me) seem to think it’s gone (from the tri state frum communities at least) is that six+ weeks ago every day I could list off to you another 10-20 people who I knew PERSONALLY with covid, at least five of whom were deathly ill. It’s been days and days and weeks and weeks and... I don’t know ANYONE who has it or who has developed it over the past four+ weeks.

Obviously outside the tri state frum communities it’s very much still around but I really have a hard time believing that it’s still prevalent in Brooklyn etc and I just happen not to know of anyone with it.

I think some communities have developed something like a wall of immunity - I would not go so far as to call it herd immunity without seeing actual proof - and perhaps it is a chain-link fence rather than a wall. But the first wave of Covid seems to have passed.

Here's to hoping it stays in the past.

Mishpacha had very good coverage on this exact question this past issue.
(Basically, no. Even if cases are dropping in the frum community, if it is active in the general population we are still at risk. And they bust the myth of herd immunity, as well.) Very informative and important read.

It's not completely gone; no one thought it would be 100% eradicated. but look at this image above.
The curve is definitely flattened.
