I'm thinking of a baby name that sounds better with the name we use as a middle name. Is this a normal thing to do? Meaning, for example, the name is Shmuel Zev and he goes by Zev.

We did this. Yiddish first name (named for someone) Hebrew second name (we call her by the second name)

We did this. We wanted to name for someone using the full name but liked the middle name more.

My son is named after a family member who needed a name added. His name is Chaim Avraham Yosef, and we call him Avromi.

We did it too and its fine except for at the dr’s office and on insurance forms etc (where they insist on calling him by his first name when he exclusively goes by his second)

My son’s birth certificate only has his second Hebrew name on it. So his legal name and the name he is called are almost the same. He call him Avromi and his legal name is Avrohom, instead of Chaim.

Same. We named my grandfather’s full name. He went by first name, we call middle name.

Every Mendy I know is Menachem Mendel .
My mother wanted to call me by my second name because my first name isn’t pretty, but my father didn’t let,
My brother has 3 names and goes by the middle one, as does my cousin.

Sure! I know so many people who go by their middle names. I’m one of them myself.

DH and DS both go by their middle names. I know plenty of other people who do as well.

My sister has a different legal name than what we call her and when she was about two/three she asked the neighbor "why does the doctor call me 'eng-lish-name'?" The neighbor had to ask my mom. 😂
I also, just heard that a lot of forms have a space for people to write "preferred" name. Exactly for reasons like this.
