My oldest is 6 years old. He has always been just a tad behind socially-a little immature, but nothing crippling. Now since school has been closed he has been socializing exclusively with his 3 year old brother and boy does it show. Recently as we have been slowly allowing him to play outside with some boys his age it is more apparent. He makes silly jokes that only his 3 year old brother would laugh at and the boys on the block find him annoying to play with. How can we help bring him up to speed?

Get the book "The Social Detective". Start with that then discuss with your son what is going on. Is he oblivious or gets anxious or doesn't know how to act? Act out possible scenarios with mentchies.

But if he knows to select jokes that amuse his little brother, he is socially aware... It's not that he has not sense of it...

Feels a bit anxious about interaction with peers. Role play and discuss inappropriate need of 3 yr old jokes for 6 yr old s and formulate alternative ways of interaction.
