I oppose racial quotas for any job. People should be hired based on their qualifications and ability.

In any case, from what I understand, the police force is already rather racially balanced, compared to the overall population.

- In NYC, for example, the police force is >50% non-White

- In LA, the stats are here. Black police officers are "overrepresented" compared to their percentage in the population of LA

Of course, statistics show that White police officers are not more likely to shoot minority suspects, but nobody seems to care about data these days.

I think the #defundthepolice movement started a conversation about the excessive use of force of police departments in general, and the entire approach towards modern policing. The concept of overpolicing, criminalizing non-criminal issues, etc (which affect minority communities disproportionately) are not going to be resolved by hiring more poc.

No. The people who want to protest will find something to protest regardless if there is any real truth to it. Giving in and discriminating against white people is not the answer.

I think establishing a protocol for half the police force to be black is racism itself. Racism by definition means discriminating based on person's race. The above would further serve an us against them attitude. Letting everyone get to where they want by their own merit is the opposite of racism. I think that blacks play the biggest role in furthering racism in the US. Anyone can get to any position - even president - is that racism? Anyone can be a cop - is that racism?

USA is not half black.

But I support using Black Police in Black neighborhoods.

The alternative is that every time white police kill a black there are riots.

We live in largely integrated and mixed populations. The police forces reflect this.

Look at Atlanta.

Both blacks whites and more.

Yet a black man is killed while fighting police and stealing their taser and riots erupt.

Reminds me of when an abusive man says he was so angry he had no choice but to beat his wife R"L.

In Paris and elsewhere protesters BLM etc erupted into anti semitic shouts about dirty Jews.

Nothing will satisfy them until they get all their demands met ie. Dismantling the police dept., Reparations for slavery, free health care, free education, looking back into every case of police brutality, etc
