I don't get this. Somehow, on Imamother, simply sending your child to camp will instantly send them to their grave with a combination of Kawasaki and Covid, along with all of your loved ones. And yet I get an email that, hey, no problemo, Camp Simcha for kids with Cancer and depressed immune systems is open for business!
I'm sorry, what?

Just want to clarify I received an email as well (as a donor so it did not have all the details) but I believe it is only simcha special that is opening. The children in simcha special do not necessarily have depressed immune systems and I hope these special families can get the help they so desperately need this summer

They technically don't need to classfy as camp. They can classify as a medical facility or spec ed. Or something creative.

I am not familiar with any of the camp going ons but I’d imagine Camp Simcha is so familiar with following medical protocols and I imagine their campers also will take precautions
seriously.

I guess it’s not so bad they work with top doctors and they wouldn’t allow them to open if there was at all a concern. I trust the most camp simcha and there medical team.

Kawasaki is not more this year then previous years do your research. I spoke to a top specialist and she said it’s not a concern at all.

Don’t get all worked up...
1) it’s NOT for simcha (cancer division) campers
2) it will not be Sleep away just day camp
3)they’re not 100% sure yet who they will be accommodating. Right now they’re trying to get a count of siblings that will be upstate. It will either be for simcha special kids and or for siblings & a very small group.
And p.s it’s immunocompromised or immune suppressed. Not depressed

Every other special needs camp is closed. HASC is closed, for one.
And let's not get into how getting a bunch of kids on a bus from multiple homes every morning and evening isn't better than sleepaway camp.
PS "Depressed immune system" is also the technical term.

Ok so first do you rly think a camp like camp simcha will be opening without proper guidelines. Their the first place that would close if needed. Their opening a day camp for special campers. Not cancer as their immune systems are compromised and they cannot put proper guidelines in place for that.

Ziskeit, Don’t lose your jealous cells on this...
If it will run it will be over 10 days, minus the weekend.
I’m not sure how the transportation will work, but as there’s a very limited amount of kids they may not do a bus or they may have them wear masks & Skip seats or whatever.
And yes, I wish too that camp hasc and other camp fo children with sn would be open.
Ps Depressed immune system may be a term, but not one I’ve come across in any oncology ward, and it lends a very depressing name to a not fun situation...

Not op specifically, because I don’t know what’s driving her posts. Maybe she has a kid that was supposed to go to camp hasc or something... but ya, I’m oftentimes tempted to have certain people come take a shift in my life for a bit...
