I chose to put this under preschoolers even though my kids are a bit older.
Everyone I speak to says their kids can play with playmobil for hours. My kids don't know what to do with it! We have a few different sets and they just don't know how to play with it.
They do play imaginary games between themselves, like they're the store owner or the fix it man etc but they don't know how to transfer that to the tiny playmobil pieces.
Any advice?

If they are able to play pretend together, then they are definitely creative. Different kids like different toys and play different games, so I wouldn't be concerned.
If you want them to learn how to play with it though, you can sit down and play with the Playmobil with them so they see how you interact with the menchies.

My kids don't love to play with toys-play sets. I stopped buying. (Dw, I have a bunch) They like more human interactions.
