My toaster over is about 15 years old and it started smoking- time for a new one. There was one on sale- a bela brand- came out to $10- great! I plugged it in and the timer makes a ticking sound, like you hear in the movies before and explosion. tick tick tick tick ...Now, I am not worried about an explosion, I am assuming the ticking sound is done on purpose, but it is going to drive me nuts!!!! It is annoying when you want quiet in the morning. I am wondering if all toaster ovens are now made to have that ticking sound? Has anyone else bought a new toaster oven that does not tick? Thanks!

Mine does, so does my mother's and MILs. The one at my work only does of you put it on timer, not if you leave it on "stay on".

My toaster ticks if I turn the timer, and then dings at the end. But if I just turn it on it doesn't tick.
The ticking doesn't both me. I'm used to it.

Every toaster oven I've owned made that sound when the timer was on.

Only when the timer is on. If it's turned to on, it should not make a ticking sound.

Both my dairy and my meat toaster ovens tick with the timer, but the meat one doesn't "ding" at the end. I hate that, because I forget to check, and the food cools off. I have to set a kitchen timer to remind me to go look at how the meat is doing.

Yes. It’s the timer clock ticking. Not a bomb.

We have a fancy electric display Oster from BJs that doesn't tick. But it has the most jarring DING at the end that is super annoying. Otherwise it's a great toaster oven.
