Anyone here or know someone that lives in New City? I want an idea of who lives there, and if there's a chassidish crowd, or if it will be growing? Thanks in advance.

There's a small chassidish crowd that's growing. 2 if my friends live in New City. Most schools don't provide transportation to New City. One friend sends to a big school & they get transferred. My other friend pays a neighbor to take her kids to school every day.

My friends are very chassidish covered wigs. You won't be the first. Do you have a specific area in mind? I think the chassidish crowd are in one area.

There are maybe two-three ppl who cover. Most are NOT that chassidush. It's a mix of very yeshivish and JPF.

I guess it depends on the area. My friends live on one of the streets off West Clarkstown Road and there's a nice chassidish crowd. They have a nice shteibel there. I do know that there are areas in NC that are totally not chassidish.

That's not considered the New City most ppl speak about. That's a completely different area. The area in New City that most ppl want to know about is the area off Buena Vista by Ashar.

I live in new city. There is one shteeble. The chassidim who live here and daven at the shteeble vary in how chasidish they are. A lot are not affiliated with a specific chassidus (which always made no sense to me), some are x-chassisid who still want the flavor of a shteeble. There are plenty of non chassidim who daven there as well. (For context: I am a frum Jew with Yeshiva/BY hashkafa) IMO the chassidish element here will not grow substantially as they are a big minority here, and you need to drive together anywhere.

I think so too.
DH keeps mentioning maybe we should buy there, but I can't see a chassidish community grow to big or having much potential there.

If you don’t drive it’ll be a difficult place to live. Everything is very spread out and you’re too far from the main road (New Hempstead) to walk anywhere. This is the area that’s known as New City - the other area sounds like spring valley.

For the people who live in Airmont or Chestnut Ridge and don't drive, there's also nothing walking distance. So what does it really matter?

Shopping wise it doesn't really make much of a difference, though some areas in Airmont and Chestnut are walking distance to shopping. Airmont and Chestnut have bigger chassidish crowds so you'll likely have more chassidish neighbors.
