Hi
how much formula should my 8 month old be havng per day?
he is bh eating well, 3 meals a day.

he was having 2 7oz bottles a day, on shabbos I by mistake skipped one and he was fine so did the same today.

how much do they officially need at this age? hes a chubby baby so wondering if extra milk just makes him gain more weight.

thanks a lot.

I think that's very little fluid. 4 bottles of a total of 24-30 Oz total

Sounds very little to me, but my kids have never been eating 3 meals a day at 8 months. Best to ask your Dr.

Generally 3 bottles and some form of 3 meals a day is good for an 8 month old. Provided he generally seems happy, content and sleeps nicely. If you forget one here and there it's totally fine. But try to aim for at least 2 bottles a day.

I kept giving 2-3 bottles a day until the first birthday.
I feel like I’ve heard the number 16 oz, but my kid refused to drink that much as we approached her birthday.

When you say that your baby eats meals, what does he actually have?

My almost 8 month old will have mashed banana - but that is not really nutrient equal to a breast milk/formula feeding.

And even if it was equal nutrient wise, 3 feedings a day is not enough for an 8 month old. They have small stomachs and therefore eat around 6 smaller meals a day.

Please don’t worry about your baby being overweight! You need to make sure that your baby gets all the nutrients required for proper development.

If he’s having water plus 3 meals, he doesn’t need much formula AS LONG AS he isn’t hungry or thirsty

thank you everyone.
he eats whatever we have.
I dont make separate food anymore.

so morning will be weetabix with some formula.
lunch is sandwich and some banana/yoghurt/compote.
and supper whatever were having.
so meat, chicken, fish etc.

he doesnt have massive portions.
I know I should def be giving him some formula, just want to know if theres a set amount.
is one bottle a day enough?
formula is fatty. giving him EXTRA wil make him bigger.

I know it's fatty, but iy'H he'll start walking soon and lose it. My older kids def slimmed down a lot once they started walking
My 7 month old is huge, but I'm not nursing, so she's got to have formula...

I would aim for 2 and that would be great. Like one first thing in the morning, and one before bed. Altho if he refused, that's a diff issue☺️☺️

That fat is essential for his growth and development. Please aim for at least those two bottles a day.

Whatever works for you☺️
Slightly off topic, is he really fat Bec of formula? My 7 month old is huge😀😀 pants don't fit her, she can only wear leggings... But they will really lose the extra weight once they're off formula and more active (I keep reminding myself)

Discuss with your pediatrician not random Ladies who know nothing about children’s growth patterns etc

all these women are answering from experience.

this is not a make or break issue. I know he should be having more just wasnt sure how much. no damage done either way.

Around that age I aimed for 24 ounces of formula, plus 3 meals and usually a fruit as a snack and a grain snack like quinoa.
