Morning!
Do you brush your teeth on fast days?
Otherwise, are we allowed to daven with our mouths unclean?
I kind of feel stupid calling my Rabbi about this but I'll definitely ask him next time we chat. Just seeing if I can get some clear answers here.

I always knew you’re not allowed to.
Only on a taanus yachid it’s allowed to rinse or brush.

Thanks Superwifey and Orchid, that's what I thought.
So does that mean one shouldn't daven?

Yes, you do daven. On yk we daven the whole day without brushing teeth.

I could be wrong, but I don't think you're allowed on minor fast days. On a personal fast day, you're allowed.
Unless it's a mihag, and not halacha.

Definitely not allowed! It's like u are breaking your fast. Once you brush teeth your not fasting anymore . I know it's very uncomfortable and I do try hard to avoid or stand next to people such a time .

I disagree with the poster who said "it's like breaking your fast". That is not true.
However, it IS forbidden to brush teeth on Tisha Baav, but I think it is for other reasons - same reason we can't put on cream or wash hands - I think it falls into one of those 2 categories.
You can still daven.

There was a girl in camp who wouldn’t open her mouth if she hadn’t brushed her teeth yet.

If she was later for davening and had no time to brush she’d walk around with her lips sealed tight. I think of her every tisha bav. Oh the Schar she gets if she does a taanis dibbur each fast....

Not brushing my teeth feels so gross to me. I look forward to it so much, I run to the bathroom as soon as it's permitted again.

It’s not like breaking your fast at all.
That’s not the reason we don’t brush our teeth.
We are considered to be in aveilus, and aveilim don’t brush their teeth. It’s the same reason we don’t shower today and sit low down.

I don’t see why brushing your teeth would be different than mouthwash.. meaning if you hold one is ok than the other should be as well and vice versa.
