Because she didn't find a way. She let her kid sorta kinda, but not really. She admitted She herself wouldn't feel safe on her own there, so why was it ok for her kid?
She didn't clarify any details or double check to make sure she knew what was up with her son's complicated long trip.
A kid might not realize the huge imposition of asking someone to drive 2 hours at the crack of dawn but an adult should. No excuse for not calling to clarify the details and thank the friend. No personal thank you??
