Hi all,

For those who have the minhag of the football challah Friday night, do you put just a strip of dough down the center, or it's a three braid down the center?

I cut slits into both sides of a thin strand of dough and place that on top.

It's a minhag? I thought people do it so the challa is fluffier.

It’s like schlissel challah, but with a less offensive appearance.

Never heard it being called this way. (Its like saying I have broomstick leichter but I'm telling myself to move right along and not get involved in another reference or evidence based theead.)

I make 2 different challas-
For Friday night I make a loaf that looks like a loaf of bread that wasn't sliced.
I decorate it with one of the decorations mentioned here.

For Shabbos morning I make a braided challah or a י"ב challah.

And there’s a minhag to do that for Friday night? So interesting! Never heard of it.
Am I the only one who braids with 6 for both meals in the oval shaped pan???

It’s called a ‘vov ’ Chala like the 6th letter
It’s supposed to look like it. Not sure why but it’s been my family minhag forever

I guess it depends on the footballs they use where you come from. Here, the schlissels should definitely be R rated. I know the half time show at the super bowl was pretty bad, but I think the schlissel challahs still came out ahead.

We play football with our kids Friday night.

I’ll stick to my volley ball minhag. It’s fine. All’s good with the world.
