This is terrible
Quote:
A Jewish mother and her 6 children flying from Orlando to Newark Airport were thrown off the plane over a mask issue involving a toddler.

The father tells YWN that the mom and 5 of the children were all masked-up as they headed home to Flatbush, Brooklyn, but their youngest child – two years old, was not wearing a mask.

A flight attendant requested that the child wear a mask, but the mother explained that there is no way the child will wear one. More importantly, the mother also explained to the flight attendant that according to the JetBlue policy, her child was not even required to wear a mask.

YWN checked the JetBlue policy – available on their own website – which reads as follows: “Small children who are not able to maintain a face covering are exempt from this requirement.”

The flight attendants refused to listen to her, and demanded she get off the plane with her children. When she refused, the Captain ordered the entire flight to deplane and exit. Most people on the flight began sticking up for the woman, and screaming at the flight attendants. The screaming continued in the terminal, as irate passengers were seen on viral videos calling on everyone to call customer service and complain.

Meanwhile, the husband tells YWN that he is retaining a lawyer, and will immediately be filling a federal lawsuit against the airline.

They have a right to travel safely, which it seems like they did. Many people are traveling now, it can be done safely.

They shouldnt have made a scene. They should have held the mask over the 2 year old while the stewardess is going around and then take it off. They wouldnt land while theyre flying and anyway they dont come around so often and its a short flight anyway.

You'd think the flight attendant would be aware of company policy.

But why do these things so often end up in a lawsuit?

Why? They were in complete compliance with the law and the airline policy. Why on earth should they mask up a 2 year old to pacify a nasty and out of line employee?

This is the Law and Taken from Jetblues website:
All travelers 2 years and older must wear a face covering over their nose and mouth throughout their journey, including during check-in, boarding, while in flight and deplaning. Masks with vents or exhalation valves are not permitted. Plastic face shields may be worn in addition to a face covering but not in place of one. Customers with conditions that prevent them from wearing a face covering should postpone travel until this temporary requirement is no longer in place.

The Jetblue rules were "updated" an hour after the family's flight was to have taken off. Before that it didnt say that.

To not make a scene, especially since they are noticeablg frum. I had to mask up a 10 month old for a nurse who was laughing about it as well. It is what it is. Bettee to shut up and not create drama then end up in a news article as a frum person. Thag being said, I think many individuals will see how unreasonable the request was.

Correct, the policy was updated approximately one hour after the flight's scheduled takeoff.

As for a 2 year old spreading covid, the odds are slim. Most children this young don't contract covid in the first place. Families who were hit with covid often found their youngest family members were spared. But anyway, this was an idiotic move by JetBlue.

The mom was trying her best. If a child wont wear a mask, what's she supposed to do? Handcuff her?

Don't know when JetBlue put that language up on its site, but the article I saw had a page from their website that says, "Small children who are not able to maintain a face covering are exempt from this requirement." No age given. No mention of postponing travel. They presumably flew down with the kid not wearing a mask. So maybe JetBlue changed their policy while they were on vacation OR maybe they changed the policy today as damage control.

ETA: I see from comments above that it WAS indeed attempted (and failed) damage control.

I don't agree. Frum people should be allowed to advocate for themselves. Staying under the radar doesn't keep anti semites off our case. It's ok to stand up for yourself.

I did see an article last week that named Jetblue and Southwest as being the airlines that required masks for all ages, no exceptions. So I believe the policy changed, but maybe the timing did not favor this specific family.

But it's not always.. What was the benefit here? A delayed flight? ... It reflects poorly on the idnivudals that they couldn't just humor the stewardess for 2 minutes and instead chose to argue about the policy. "Oh we'll try our best - Sara is so little she keeps taking it off. We'll be on the lookout"

For those who are wondering why she didn't just put the mask on when the flight attendant was walking by, it seems that the flight attendant was upset that the toddler wasn't keeping it on and pulling it off. In one of the videos she seems to be asking the mother of she can assure her that the child will keep it on, and the mother responds she'll do her best, but realistically.... After that they are asked to get off.

This is literally what the mother did. She was not being obnoxious.

I hope that this family wins a giant lawsuit. The flight attendants were out of line. The website clearly said that babies and small children were exempt. These flight attendants don't know anything about babies. What 2 year old will keep a mask on for a three hour flight?
