Life insurance with a preexisting condition

We are looking into getting life insurance but are total newbies here. We are both in our 20s. Was told by someone that if any medical history wasn’t disclosed upon enrollment, ultimately insurance wouldn’t pay out if they investigated upon death and found out.
Dh has a history of asthma but nothing in the last 10 years. Will that cause him to have a more expensive policy?
I have a genetic condition that BH doesn’t really affect me now. If I went for a physical now, nothing would show up. However, closer to the age of 40 they do expect some issues to arise which can include cardio issues. As of now I just go for monitoring by a few doctors to make sure all is status quo and I am still okay. I assume that I’d have to disclose this because ultimately if they found out later they wouldn’t cover anyways. Anyone in the life insurance field would know how this can affect my premiums? Should I be expecting an extremely high premium?

I don’t know a lot, but from experience, I would say the asthma shouldn’t affect you too much. Your condition might.

You also shouldn’t lie because, well, then you’d be lying—not just because they’d find out after the fact and deny your claim.

But the best thing to do is get some quotes and then see what the numbers look like.
