Shoes that fit and are comfortable. Most RW orthodox schools doesn’t allow sandals (why is beyond me but ok). Chasidish schools I imagine require them to be dark colors already. Check your school handbook for specific regulations.

This depends on the community and specific school. In my community Pre 1A girls wear all types and colors shoes. Sandals is for the summer. It just makes sense to stick to darker colors in the winter.

It shouldn't be a rule for colors. Even my middle schooler doesn't have a rule for color, just no heel and stuff

Most schools (here in Monsey and I'm sure in Brooklyn and Lakewood as well) besides for the modern schools, have shoe color rules. You can't say ther shouldn't be a rule for colors, every school is entitled to have their rules.
