What would the average starting salary be for a new rebbe? This is for a boys elementary school. Located in NY but also curious about surrounding areas, including Lakewood too.

Haskafa?
I'm willing to bet my MO school pays well, BUT you need to be a YU / REITS grad. They only hire MO lechatchila. They want, appropriately so, the Rebbeyim to be the same Haskafa as the school and families.

When you say 45K is that a full day of teaching? Or just morning?

I was told that rebbeim get paid 40-50k in my large OOT community. Limudei Kodesh hours are 8:30a-12:30 for Pre1a-4 Sunday- Friday and 5th-8th are an extra hour. Some rebbeim teach secular studies and get paid extra for that so if you want to teach the full day you can.

Starting salary of 40-50k for a 1/2 day is really not bad.
People make it sound like it is that much for a full day which is completely different.

In Lakewood rebbeim are in school from 8:30-2:30. Including lunch and recess. It’s not a 1/2 day. (Besides prep). 6-8 grade rebbeim are 7:45-2:30. Sunday-Thursday. Friday until 12:30. It’s pretty much full time. And it’s 11 months a year.

I think in Lakewood itself, starting salary is in the $45,000-$50,000 range. But it’s very competitive.

28 hours a week isn’t full time.

That is incredibly good. What does it come to an hour? That is insane.
Figure 200 school days x 1.5 hours= 300 hours at 18,000 = $60/hour with no experience.
I have a masters degree and 20 years experience. I make $35/hour.

My husband just took an English teaching job and they told him they start at $18K.
He told them not less than 20K to 25k. I think thats the going rate now.

You didn't include Sunday in your calculation.

6 hours a day x 6 days a week = 36 hours. Most schools end by 12:30-1 on Friday so 35 hours a week.

That's considered full time. Because of how the hours are structured many Rebbeim can take a 2nd afternoon job.

Most jobs are more like 9-7 at minimum and you get 2-3 weeks vaca that is spent on YT. You sound out of touch with what the rest of the world considers full time. Just saying.

Youre right. 36 hours still isn’t full time in most areas, it’s more like 45. And they get off erev yom tov, chol hamoed etc. plus a full month in the summer. It’s nice if you can get it

Assuming you teach the same curriculum every year prep shouldn’t take long at all.

Well when you consider Lakewood mothers think that working full time means 9am to 3:30, and this is around the same hours...

FYI,
My Dad taught a full schedule in public school, taught the early shift working 6:30-2:30 and then taught 2-4 periods a day in the afternoon in Yeshiva. He tutored evenings and on Sundays. He worked in a camp during the summer.
Expecting to work 1.5 hours a day or even 8:30-2:30 and to be able to support your family is insane. As denim stated above, a typically job (and I am not referring to a competitive-sell your soul, lawyer/finance job) is 9-7 with 2-3 vacation days to be used for YT.
