Watergirl, my answer is "no, I'm not cringeing." I couldn't care less about the opinion of some random stranger who has eavesdropped on part of my conversation, and whom I will probably never see again.
My dh, in his younger days, used to hold bogus "suspicious" conversations with his buddies in places like the subway or in line at the bank:
"Target neutralized."
"Collateral damage?"
"Some."
"Cleanup?"
"In progress."
Which may have meant "I finally nailed that mouse that was scampering around the kitchen. In the process, I broke a chair, but I can fix it." Or it may have meant nothing at all and was simply two guys having a good time at the audience's expense.
