I can't imagine that they can do this themselves and typically they want the independence of doubt their own hair.
If your 10yo DD is cooperative with your doing her hair OR has the dexterity to do it herself, great!

Mine likes when I make her braids but I usually don't have time (not a morning person!) Most kids wear regular ponytail or bun. Braids (French or the upside down French - is that what you're calling corn?) One on each side are also stylish. And there will always be kids who look great in short cuts or headbands but it's not really trending.

A confident kid can wear anything, but I haven't seen double buns trending especially. Just double French (corn?) braids and regular ponies.

double buns are more for little kids like under two if that
