Maybe. Maybe not. If it is out of work hours, then for sure not. The boss should do team building on his/her time, not on the personal time of the employees. And if I have to have a babysitter and pay someone, or miss something going on at home for something that is not part of my job (ie if the job description never mentioned hours outside of the agreed upon work hours), the resentment will undo any potential benefits to the firm. Trust me.

We generally do it during work hours.

By us a lot of stuff are done during work hours but some isn't. Like if we go out to eat for supper then it is after work hours. When we went swimming it was during work hours. When we took out a boat we left a bit early and came back after work hours. This specific thing is local, with kids and geared for after they come home from school.
We generally try to do something different every couple.months. we also have celebration points where we earn these trips/outings/ etc
