Not the one I was referring to, anyway. The one I remember was published probably 1990ish, and had a dark blue cover. The girl who found out about not being Jewish was named Anat, I think. Narrator's name was Tamar.

Spiritual: "The Garden of Emunah" by Rabbi Shalom Arush. It absolutely changed my life. If you think from most of my posts that I am optimistic and do my best to see the silver lining in clouds, this book is why. I've read it many times, and I always get something new from it, depending on what is going on in my life.

Political: "They Must Go" by Meir Kahana. Some people think it's "hate speech", but I didn't find that to be true at all. It's well researched, logical, and actually pretty even handed. His argument for Palestinian resettlement, and the reasons why it didn't work, are very eye opening.

He had an excellent grasp of the mind set of the Palestinians as an "invaded people", and makes you think really hard. I wouldn't go so far as to say that he was "compassionate", but he was certainly understanding, and was looking for a solution that would be best for both sides, with the least amount of bloodshed.

I honestly don't read Jewish books. I've read Rather Laugh Than Cry by Malka Zipora and I really enjoyed it. It's written by a Chassidish ima from Montreal. It's not a traditional book, more like little blurbs from her life. I love that she was just positive about everything! And there was a phrase she tells her children every morning, can't remember what it is (I think it's Yiddish). It made me give my kids more than the standard "have a nice day."

Hidden:

she was a mamzer.

She took a job as a lawyer so she could make sure Jews getting a divorce would have a get so their children wouldn’t suffer like she did.

Found it: “Nothing But the Truth" by Leah Friedman.
It was sad and thought provoking. My friend who gave it to me to read had a parent with a bad gerus that affected her greatly. It made this book more meaningful.

ohh that's a terrible book Sad made me so angry
not the book but the premise

If you google the title of the jewish book you want many used book stores have them in stock.

I ordered Forever My Jerusalem from Abes books. It was $10 including shipping. Hardcover and in good condition. It just came today and I can't wait for my kids to read it!

That's one of my favorite books!
The fall of Jerusalem in 1948 through the eyes of a young girl in the Old City. It is such an amazing peek into that time period, the thoughts and feelings of the families who lived through it.

Lol it’s a huge joke in my house, my mom bought it home for me in 4-6th grade all excited that it’s this really thick and long book, what did she know it had a cute girl on the cover. 🤣
