depends on the fabric it's made of.
1.Make sure your ironing board cover is clean; if it's not, cover it with an old white sheet.
2.Make sure the soleplate is clean; if it's not, either scrub with a scrubbie or sprinkle salt on a piece of paper and iron over it--dry, no steam a few times. then brush off the salt.
3. use steam.
4. all cotton, iron on one notch below the hottest. Linen, iron on the hottest. permanent press, iron on medium to low.
5. iron just like a shirt: Front of Collar first, then back of collar, then sleeves, then back, then front. Don't forget the belt.
6. If there's synthetic trim, use a damp press cloth (the back panel of an old but clean white cotton shirt will do). stretch the collar and trim flat before pressing if it looks like they shrank and are pulling the rest of the fabric.
7. Keep the iron moving. Don't leave it for a long time in one place or you risk burning the fabric.'8. When in doubt, start with a lower setting. if that doesn't do the job, move up a notch.
your iron should have markings 'silk-wool-synthetic-cotton-linen'.
