I used to ask my father to wake me so I can have coffee, or cereal and milk and fruit. I didn't find that it helped enough for me to justify waking up so early, so I stopped. Didn't try it in years though, may be worth trying again.

I didn't plan to, but after two days of vatikin davening my body was obviously attuned to waking up before 5:00am. Since I was awake, I took advantage and had an extra drink and a handful of grapes. Then I went back to sleep. I normally fast easily, so I'm not too worried.
