We usually make a small party in the sukka and sometimes get an ushpizin sorbet cake for my father. We’ve done it as a surprise from the kids a few times. I know my cousins do the same for their father but it’s not a surprise and they do it every year on his night.

is this a thing?? I've never heard of it but it's such a cute idea! wondering now if my teenage Moshe would appreciate it when we've never done it before Wink

I'm so curious now if this is a custom in certain communities..

When we lived in EY, the kid's in our building would celebrate ushpizin by going to neighbors with family members ushpizin names, sing sings (like simchas torah songs), and expect treats ;D
Never had this anywhere else

I actually gave each of my sons the name of an ushpiz (one got 2) ... I still need a Yosef (bzh bshaa tova one day eventually. In a healthy way for both me and baby) :-)

They love sukkot each one gets to be guest of honor for a night. And funny enough the one who gets two nights ... Really needs two night.

Bake square sugar cookies and let him help decorate with icing. He can write yakov in hebrew on some and english in some and he can give it out as dessert With a fruit or ice cream

I don't think it's a custom/ minhag.

But some people do it.

My mother used to make the child's favorite dessert/ cake for the day of his ushpezin.

We live in the tri-state area.

My mother is Israeli tho Smile

I remember that a few of our neighbors also did it, and their mother wasn't Israeli.

I think it just depends on the mother's type....

You could also do for the girls (wives ?). I personally don't because no one around me does but I do mention the days for the names that are my kids
