My baby is very constipated. Every time she tries making she cries out in pain. I did start solids recently. What can I do to help her?

What have you tried already? Call your pediatrician. You can try inserting a little vaseline, which may do the trick.

learned this the hard way with a rectal thermometer TMI

Yes, we use them for NICU babies. I would give a sliver. If you can't get in touch with your pediatrician, I would feel comfortable giving a piece of a glycerin suppository

What I do is this:
Put a clean diaper under baby. Put on gloves. Hold baby’s legs with knees bent into the stomach. Hold a suppository in the butthole but don’t push it in.
Also try feeding pear purée.

RN here . For babies, a glycerin suppository is ok. You can also insert a thermometer tip with Vaseline to stimulate a bowel movement.

When DD was a baby she had all kinds of tummy troubles. We put a teaspoon of prune juice in her bottle once a day, and it worked wonders.
