Hi, I am a (relatively new) OT in Monsey. I happen to not know of Esther but I am new in the community. Have you tried the standard OT for your son yet? I do not know your son, but there are plenty of very good OTs in Monsey who can likely help your son without charging that price. Generally, insurance will cover OT and I personally would not pay those prices unless you have tried other OTs first.

I've tried way too many things as well as a few insurance covered OTs. My son is 11 he has very poor muscle tone bad handwriting doing very poorly acedemicly and is in general not up to par with his age group. He seems to be underdeveloped. I was referred by someone knowledgeable to try Esther just not sure where to take the money from.

Rob a bank.
Dh feels that if people really are in the interest of helping people, they should and would charge reasonable and fair rates.

The rates she charges reminds me more of an expensive psychiatrist, not an OT.

Speaking of your child, have you looked into the Arrowsmith Program?

I am not taking her to an OT now, I was looking for reflex integration, and I found another person/center that does such work. Its called Rise Above in Monroe, her name is Roizy Markowitz and she has associates who help her out.

I know nothing about this therapist. Here's what I do know, as an OT who's been practicing for over a decade:
1. Those rates are not anywhere in the ballpark of going rates for OT, no matter what special certification the therapist has.
2. Giving a close relative as a professional reference is an obvious no no.
3. Only accepts cash payment is not the norm at all among therapists.
4. Making clients agree to sign up for a set number of sessions with two related therapists in order to be "accepted" is not ethical.

There are way too many red flags here, and I'm sorry for all the desperate parents who get sucked in because they will do anything for their kids.

OT's that get certified in MNRI go through a lot of training, and spend thousands of dollars. I think that if someone is specialized, and has proven success, it is not unethical to charge that amount.
That being said, as an OT who is currently training in MNRI, but not specializing, there are many OT's who are knowledgeable and will not charge those rates. But you won't get the deep knowledge of it that you will get from going to a core specialist.
Personally, I prefer to utilize a variety of methods and approaches in my sessions, so I would never specialize in one thing.

I have seen students that were helped by her - I am in special Ed. I think that her rates are on the higher end but not unreasonable for highly experienced service providers - it’s $225 an hour. Intakes anmd evaluations are always more. For the mother that said it is sounds like a psychiatrist rate you have not been to a psychiatrist recently in the NY area because those would be close to triple. She is known to be very dedicated. You can ask for a list of treatment goals and ask for when and if they are being met, so you can track progress as well. Her work is nothing like Arrowsmith program brainstorm - Merzbach, or Raizy Markowitz, etc. which are non-research based methodologies. You will waste time and money there as well if your child really needs high quality OT.
Please don’t spend your money elsewhere. If this is unaffordable find a different OT like Rikki Dembitzer, Miriam Manella, or Elisheva Jacobson.

Nuts. Please don’t pay it! I went to her years ago she is energetic but has a big mouth and if your child makes any progress in life she will take all the credit till 120 and if they regress she will kick you out.
