I sautee extra cabbage in oil, and add salt, pepper, sugar, and a little vinegar. Freeze for when I want to make cabbage 'n' noodles. I just pull out and defrost, and toss with cooked noodles (mini bowties) for a great side dish.

Deconstructed stuffed cabbage.
I don't cook from recipes.
Sautéed meat and onions.
Add some garlic powder.
Add cabbage and tomato sauce-either jarred or canned-if using canned balance the acidity with some sugar.
Add Italian spices. Cover and cook over low heat until the cabbage is soft.
Serve over rice.
