Baby keeps getting ear infections. What natural stuff can I try that work? Don’t like that he’s on antibiotics so often

Quoting what an anonymous Amother posted a while back, don't have the link to the original thread:

Quote:
If it’s not yet infected and just a build up of fluid mix 1 oz warm water, 1/2 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp baking soda (baking soda is for storage shelf). Put a few drops into ears 3x a day, and pump it into the ear with your finger over the ear flap. It works by soothing the ear and as well as draining the fluid just like we use salt to kasher chickens.

If already infected, put peroxide into the ear and pump in with your finger and it will pull out infection.

I do salt water any time I even think an infection is coming and always cleared it up. Don’t use antibiotics anymore. Good luck!

If he keeps getting frequent ear infections, you need to take him to an ENT. He probably needs tubes in his ears. Frequent ear infections can cause hearing loss.

My son usually got it when he had a cold/ was congested.

I started giving him 1 scoop KiddieMax Immune Boost every day, to help prevent him from getting a cold...

If you are in Lakewood, you can speak to Isaac from Refuah Pharmacy.

Best natural remedy for ear infections is breast milk - if you happen to be nursing or are comfortable asking another nursing mother for some. Flood the ears several times a day. I saw miraculous 24 hour turn arounds in my kids from this.

My dd took antihistamines for 2 á 3 years because without it she got ear infections all the time. We went to an ear specialist for that.

Also if you ever go to Antwerp, there is some very good homeopathic medicine there that helps a lot (made and sold by a pharmacist)

In DDs case the ear infections were as a result of environmental allergies. We only discovered that in an attempt to forestall a second set of tubes.

B'hatzlacha!

Have you tried acidopholus along with the antibiotics?
I'd also try garlic oil drops.

IF, and I say IF, it comes to tubes, you should know that ENTs are skilled mechanics when it comes to that - they do a lot of them and find one who does it well. It's not the end of the world but understandable that you want to avoid it. Hatzlacha!

I used a teaspoon of kyolic and Panto-c with elderberry extract twice a day and my daughter's fluid cleared up. she had ear infections for a year and was scheduled for tubes, but this worked. I gave it to her for years and she never had an ear infection again.

I'm trying now immune power plus vitamin d. So far it's helping. My baby had 3 ear infections including one double in 3 months.

My DD didn't get ear infections, but she had fluid buildup in her ears and two ENTs we saw wanted to put in tubes. ENT #3 suggested we try a simple device called the Ear Popper. It basically sends a small puff of air pressure through the ear canal to open it up (it makes your ears pop, like on an airplane). We used it twice per ear, twice a day, for several months, and it cured the problem. We did have one reoccurrence a year or two later, she was complaining of not hearing clearly, and a couple of weeks with the Ear Popper again and her ears were back to normal.

I do not know if this will help with chronic ear infections, but it is worth looking in to at least. Lots of ENTs haven't even heard of it and so many are quick to put in tubes but if there's even a chance that something noninvasive like the Ear Popper can help, I say at least try it. It can't hurt.

I should mention that when we started the acidopholus, the persistent fluid cleared up and bH she started to respond and didn't need tubes.

My daughters ear infection is not going away. she has another double infection now.

I need help. Maybe I should take her off dairy or try the breast milk?

How does that work, flood her ears with breastmilk and then where does the milk go. Sounds strange...

can you tell me more?

Ear infections are often secondary to too much mucus, so you need to figure out whats causing that.

1) is kid constantly getting colds? Try avoiding that through the ways listed above?
2) could it be environmental allergies? My kids a different kid with a nightly dose of Zyrtec.
3) milk allergy? Try cutting it out and see if it helps.

So then you need to treat that. You can try allergy meds. Or going off milk. Or generally boosting the immune system. It's going to be some trial and error to find what what solves this particular kids problem
