My son has fever and a slight cough. Should I assume it's Covid or are kids getting the flu now? Of course I'll take him to the Dr I'm just curious.

You should assume it is Covid and have him tested...
It could well be the flue, but you don't want to miss that it's Covid if it's covid...

I'm not testing him for Covid. Absolutely not!

Why? So you can send him to school if he’s positive?

Because her convenience is more important than other people's health

Maybe she intends to keep him home anyhow?

More likely worried about raising the numbers on her block. Many people doing this still do medical precautions as if it's covid.

How about it can be strep throat or a sinus infection or a hundred other things!!!
Covid is not the only illness around!!
And these symptoms are not usual for little kids that have Covid.

Sorry. I'm am not like you who's kid has 100.5 gives Motrin and sends the kid off to school. When my kid has anything above 99 I keep the kid home no matter what I have planned or scheduled for that day.

If you (or anyone) sends their child to school in NYS, this is the guidance, preK-12th grade.
Fever or cough alone are reasons to have the child evaluated and kept home from school, etc. until appropriately resolved. (as described at the link.)

Kids got sick before covid. It can be a good old virus. They’re still here. My son had one now. A virus. Not the covid virus!

I don't think it's very nice what she said, and I understand your hesitation to test, but if your son has it, other family members may have it as well. I doubt you want to go around spreading it unknowingly. I would at least call a doctor and see if he thinks a test is warranted.

Have him tested for the flu and see if you can give the Tamiflu.
If it's not the flu, make sure to get him a flu shot once he's recovered. It's not too late.

Good for you for NOT testing!
I wouldn’t want to test either.
But do keep him home.
