This site has many books listed along with a review of any problematic content.
I also like to read book reviews on Amazon specifically the 1 and 2 star reviews as that's where people who find problems in books usually are. |
I really dislike the way that kosherbooks.com rates books. According to their ratings the entire Anne of green gables series is unacceptable! I'm not sure how they rate the secret garden but it's completely clean. I actually reread this book very recently and it's perfectly acceptable.

Daddy, what does "gay" mean?
Well... you see... it's actually... well.. when 2 men want to.. well... be together.
Oh, okay. Thanks Daddy! Now what's "tzalmaves"?
OP, I see the book as perfectly clean. We read it in elementary school in the most frum school you'll ever know.

She wasn't anorexic, she was a small child called ugly by her own mother & ignored because her mother was beautiful.
She was ignored by almost all the adults in her life, little wonder her behavior was horrible.

Kosherbooks is still really useful because they usually explain what the objections are.

Another one, along the same lines, was the Velvet Room, which was set in the Dust Bowl era.

ooh my favorite book growing up.
It's out of print and costs a couple of hundred dollars now....or I'd order it for my kids to read.
ETA I see you can get it for $49 now in your link....tempted. But still pricey.
