Maybe whooping cough then?
Im trying to reach the Dr now, why didnt they suggest it?
because babies are vaccinated against whooping cough so they don’t consider it a probably cause

GERd or reflux can cause coughing attacks. (From personal experience right now). And constant ear infections or fluid in ears...

Dont think its whooping cough, baby has been home with me. Also its not constant, several times during the day and attacks at night.
Shes has also been getting secondary infections such as eye infection and just now ear infection. She has been treated 3 times with steroids and twice with antibiotics in the past few weeks.
Its making me so anxious and cant hear my poor baby struggle and be in pain.

Is she vaccinated?

X-ray will not pick up something plastic. We had a baby in our office who had croup that wouldn't go away, and they ended up doing a bronchoscopy under anesthesia, and found and removed a plastic star that the child had swallowed and had lodged itself in his airway.

DD was misdiagnosed with croup a few times. Turned out it was food she had choked on which lodged in her throat. Was found and removed only under a full bronchoscopy. Not seen on laryngoscopy. (I asked them repeatedly if the choking episode was connected, but they reassured me it wasn't.)

Bottles and first stage baby jars wont cause that

But bottles can cause aspiration which can cause coughing attacks.
You mentioned upthread you’ll be seeing a pulmonologist?

Yes.

Good luck! Hope you don’t have a long wait for that. In the interim if you feel it’s happening during or after feeding time you may want to schedule with a GI too (to rule out reflux) and perhaps see if you can schedule a swallow study so in case you need it- you shouldn’t have to wait another few months.

Good luck!

On second thought you may not get a swallow study referral before you see a specialist or 2... but if you can get tested for pertussis in the interim that may answer your question too.

Can you try a wedge or pillow under the mattress? It may be reflux related & being more upright can help with that.

But I believe that is not recommended for babies because of head slump risk

Yeah its whooping cough. Little babies are more likely to struggle to breathe than to whoop.

My baby was 1 years old and fully vaccinated it took us 6 weeks to get diagnosis despite her turning blue every day - they didn't believe how bad it was because in between attacks she seemed okay and she never seemed to do it in the office.

Another sign of whooping vs asthma is if steroids don't help- she was on tons of steroids by the time correctly diagnosed.

My baby doesnt sound as severe as yours but I totally get the doctors not taking you serious because my baby doesnt cough at the dr so I recorded her at night and had them listen to it, only then was I taken seriously.
We put a peice of wood under the head of her crib to slightly elevate. Trust me we are trying everything. Going for whooping swab today but results take a couple days they say.
Also im not hearing of anyone having it, where would she have gotten it and the rest of the family has all been ok all this time bh

We are still traumatized... We went to ER urgent care dr so many times... Finally diagnosed by some random young doctor who decided to swab for it.
We don't have any idea where we got it either but apparently most people never figure it out. It is airborne so it's possible theoretically for someone susceptible to get just by walking past someone contagious.

If everyone in your family has been vaccinated, they would get an extremely mild case, possibly asymptomatic. But they could still be carriers and pass it on to someone else.

My baby brother had whooping cough when he was a baby, it was really scary! We knew not to ever let him cry because that would set off a coughing attack and it was hard for him to breathe.

Her neck xray came out clear bh, did the pertussis swab today (couple days for results). Her attacks dont sound as severe as some are describing for whooping cough.
Shes on cefdiner now for ear infection and Dr is considering starting whooping cough treatment without diagnosis.
Well be going for an ultrasound tomorrow to hopefully rule out vascular ring iyh.

My baby has croup with an underlying environmental allergy..... And the croup is petrifying. Dr said normal croup can last at least 14 days.
