Or do you wait till they are old enough to wash on their own?

Not necc old enough to wash on their own, but old enough to understand... maybe like age 2, you could say "ok it's time to wash negel vasser now!" and then pour the water over their hands so the habit gets ingrained in them

My husband does it from day 1.
I thought it was weird.
I learnt since then that it’s for the child to have a pure neshoma and it personally reminds me hashem is in charge of waking people up. And it’s better ingrained into the child’s memory.

Oldest child was born in the morning. As soon as we were left alone in a regular room, my husband proudly washed our newborn's hands.

18+ months I think is a good time to start doing it every day (or try to do every day). I just make it part of the teeth brushing routine. Quick splish splash with the cup, brush and floss teeth, make up hair, and done Smile

I did it when my daughter was a few months old and was told as long as they're not eating foods it's not necessary.
Now I try to do it from about a year/18 months but too often I forget.

I've heard about doing it from day one, but personally I do when they start eating solids and touching their food.
