I’m very worried.
24h ago we switched my child strep meds and a fever is still going on. Lymph nodes are huge. Swollen eyes. As the fever went up, his eyes became more swollen and a little rash showed on his face.
I know that antibiotics could take 24-48 to kick in. I just gave the 3rd dose.
Am I being impatient or are we missing something over here?
I don’t remember strep taking so long to get better. Maybe with myself when I was a child.
Please advise.
Thanks for reading! I really don’t have anybody who cares to talk about it IRL

Please call your doctor's emergency after hours number. It doesn't sound good. Maybe it's really bad and he needs antibiotics via immediate IV. Refuah Shelaima!

Is it possible that your child is allergic to this antibiotic?

Did you also test him for covid? A lot of people are getting both. Alternatively, if he already had covid, I have seen strep take much longer to resolve and people who had it semi-recently.
Either way, I would call the doctor. I also think he could be allergic to the antibiotic, so that warrants a call.

Dr said to wait till tomorrow.
It’s not an allergic reaction to antibiotics as eyes got swollen before. The eyes get more swollen when the fever goes up.
Covid was negative.

He might be allergic...if swelling increases, or rash spreads...give benadryl as well
. And maybe change to omnicef.

Amoxil and augmentin are the same. Augmentin is amoxil+clavulate(?spelling). They are both penicillin based antibiotics

I always knew that Augmentin is stronger than plain Amoxil.

After shower and Tylenol, fever went down.
Rash went down, so did the swollen eyes.
Weird.

He wants to rest all day.
Otherwise he is talkative and he does have a meal/play when the fever is down.
And he wants to go to schooL.

Even if it's not an allergy per se, it can still be a side effect reaction to medication. I would call the doctor's urgent line and talk it over with them about how to proceed.

Unfortunately, I am a bit of an expert on strep.
A lacy, all over rash usually means it's turning into Scarlet Fever. This is an EMERGENCY. Scarlet Fever used to be a problem at the turn of the last century, but as strep becomes more drug resistant (as you are seeing right now) it has returned.
If two courses of antibiotics are not working, you may have to "nuke this one from orbit." That means taking Cipro, which is pretty serious business.
Make sure that you wait 2 hours after each antibiotic dose to give probiotics, or they will interfere with each other.
If your child still has tonsils and adenoids, make an appointment with an ENT as soon as you can get in. Chances are, they are providing a safe harbor for strep. Antibiotics do not cross the barrier into tonsils, and strep can shelter there until the coast is clear to pop up again.
I repeat, get to an ENT right away!

Yes! My teen had a silent strep and covid together. Took him a long time to get back to himself. He needed to be on antibiotics for awhile.

My married nephew recently has strep and the meds weren't working. He went back to the doctor. He had an abscess in his throat, caused by the strep. They said that a small percent have the side issue from strep, but it's not unheard of. They drained the abscess and he quickly started to feel better.
