Usually in a pot. How else? *Sarcasm*
Boil in a pot of water for 10 min (boiling for 10 min) and rinse with cold water.

How To Cook Eggs for Dummies:
Count the eggs. Choose the most beautiful ones. Clean the surface on which you will crack them. Choose a bowl. Carefully crack the eggs and make sure no peel gets into the eggs. Choose a pretty fork. Whisk the eggs with said fork. Pour oil into a frying pan. Turn on the flame. Wait till the oil gets heated. Pour in the eggs. For scrambled eggs mix it while it cooks. For an omelette just let it cook and flip to other side when firm. You can be creative and add cheese and/or veggies if you'd like. Turn off the flame. Place in a plate. Enjoy!

If you are still unsure if you can master this difficult culinary task, I invite you to come over. I'll give an egg frying tutorial and we'll talk over perfect scrambled eggs and coffee. (The coffee tutorial will have to take place another day. Rome wasn't built in one day, ya' know.)

Regular for when?

For Shabbos, hard boiled. For breakfast? Quick scrambled with cheese or sunny side up. I add the cheese right in with the egg to keep things soft. For supper I do frittata, usually with potato, onion, garlic and mushroom or with caramalized onions and cheese.

How to Hard-Boil Eggs
for people like me who otherwise can't get this right

1) Place eggs into wire colander with handle* - as many as you want
2) Place colander into pot
3) Fill with cold water until eggs are covered
4) REMOVE colander, set aside
5) Place pot on stove, cover
6) Turn on high
7) When water reaches a strong boil, carefully remove lid
8) Wearing an oven mitt, slowly lower the colander into the water
9) Replace lid of pot
10) Set 18 minute timer
11) Lower heat to medium
12) 18 minutes later, remove pot from stove
13) Remove colander and pour out water from pot
14) Replace colander in pot and fill pot with cold water
15) Voila! Lots of easy-to-peel eggs.

*I use my generic Instant Pot steamer basket

Cook eggs, I will assume you mean hard boiled, because everything else is fried...
My other assumption is that this is a social experiment πŸ€” πŸ˜†
So for Hard-boiled eggs, I bring a pot of water, with a little salt, to a boil, then gently add in the eggs with a spoon, cover, cook for 12 minutes and then put in the sink under cold running water.
Perfect sunshine yellow eggs, 🌞 and easy peel every time!!!
Git Shabbos!

I put on my morning robe
Walk across the field to the barn
Take some eggs from the chicken coop
Fill the big black pot with water
Put it up to boil
Then cook the eggs for 10 minutes
Then close the flame and have cold water run for a few minutes
Simple as that!!!!

What if the chicken runs away? Or eats the egg herself?

I’m a great cook but I’m always nervous with eggs. I put them in cold water, bring the pot to a boil, simmer for a few minutes and then cover. Turn off the burner and let them sit there for ever.

This thread was started in jest because someone complained on another thread that I'm too serious.

In the end there are pretty good ideas on this thread.

Thanks 😊

On a more serious note, does anyone else cook in odd numbers? I was always taught to cook a minimum of 3 and after that, evens are fine. Dh's family does only odds.

More "How do I not cook eggs?"

Poached. I don't poach.
But, yeah all the other things.

And I do boil in numbers too with a minimum of 3. (I think the 3 min is more important to prevent halachic issues if there's a blood spot than the odd numbers overall)

Any other advice?

I've made my hard boiled eggs 3 different ways throughout my marriage. Each time I got a new stove, I had to relearn how to make them. Somehow the method that worked for years didn't work anymore. Each gas range distributes heat differently, and using a new one is a learning curve with temperature and cooking time (more so with something delicate like hard boiled eggs that you want easy to peel, yellow not green, smelling fresh).

Which of these have you not tried yet?

My current method:
Fill a pot halfway with water and bring to a boil. Once it just starts to bubble, gently lower one egg at a time into the pot, using a long handled serving spoon. Set the timer for 13 minutes, and let the eggs cook. Turn off flame, pour off hot water into the sink and run cold water over the eggs until the water feels cool. Pat eggs dry, and refrigerate.

This was my method for many years before my current stove:
Place eggs into a pot and cover with cold water by 1 inch. Bring to a boil over high heat, cover, remove from heat, and let stand 13 minutes. Use a slotted spoon to transfer eggs to an ice-water bath to stop the cooking. Leave in the ice-water to cool completely for 10 minutes. Pat eggs dry, and refrigerate.

Trying to remember my first method, which also worked for many years on my first stove.

We made a deal. She gives me eggs and in return & give her kernels. So far she’s keeping her end of the deal
