Trying to write a song
Yet its coming out all wrong
How to get my inspiration back
How to get my mind back on track
I'm distracted
Maybe overreacting
But theres a deadline
And my empty pages
And I feel like I'm lost
Hard for me at this stage
Dear fellow writer
Can you help?

It's so hard to experience
That immutable writer's block.
It feels like my fluid brain
Has turned into a rock.
While so very often
My words so cleanly flow
Here I can sit for hours
And have nothing to show.
While continuing the same way
Will often yield nothing more
I've learned that it is best
To take a mental detour.
Try a new sheet of paper
Or switch to pen from screen
Go to the porch or off the couch
Create a change of scene.
Jump up and down or take a jog
Or do a boring chore
Like balancing the checkbook
Or washing the dishes du jour.
Or just switch tracks and write and write
But with no aim in mind
At least a page of drivel
Is useful too, I find.
I hope that these are helpful
And will you please be so kind
As to share the finished product
When you leave your block behind?

Heard a Yiddish and Hebrew version actually. Sounds like op wants to use the tune. For a serious birthday song, maybe for grandparents or so.
